Background
At our inaugural Festival in 2012, award winning TV and film composer Paul Farrer spoke about innovating under the pressure of a deadline and gave us a fascinating insight into his world of creating new theme tunes often with a fairly nebulous brief.
In 2013, Paul kindly composed an exclusive signature tune for the Festival. To be a little different we tried to provide Paul with a very tight brief: "The music should have a number of different styles reflecting a diversity of ideas, but begin with a slow perhaps military style symbolic of thinking about a problem that needs to be solved. The music should then build as if the idea is being developed and then reach a crescendo symbolic of the eureka moment. Overall the composition should suit being the opening theme for the Festival, instilling a sense of anticipation and excitement in the audience."
Paul also spoke more recently about his work at TEDxMalvern.
The Challenge
Create an opening video sequence over our signature tune. The best entry, in our view, will be used to open the Festival, and runners-up will be used to open the various themed symposia thereafter.
The Brief
You are free to think out of the box on this one, but consider capturing something about creative thinking, technical innovation, and/or the venue Great Malvern. Browse the upcoming programme for more inspiration.
