An afternoon seminar for senior school students (Years 10 to 13) interested in science, technology, engineering, and design. This was an opportunity to hear about applying these subjects in the real world to pursue an exciting career in the all-important creative economy.

Designing and Engineering the Aston Martin Sports Car

Dr Bal Choda returns to Malvern in 'his' Aston Martin to deliver an audio visual presentation about how these iconic sports cars are designed for stunning looks and engineered for high performance. Bal is an engineer and STEM Ambassador with Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd, and he'll describe the design process, systems engineering, and innovation that goes into the creation of an Aston Martin sports car.

Founded in 1913 by Robert Bamford and Lionel Martin as 'Bamford & Martin Ltd', the company has developed into an iconic brand synonymous with luxury and elegance. 1914 saw the birth of the name ‘Aston Martin’ following one of Lionel Martin's successful runs at the Aston Hill Climb in Buckinghamshire, England. Within a year the first Aston Martin had been built and registered with the name.

NMiTE – New Model in Technology & Engineering – is an initiative backed by government, educators and industry, to transform engineering education in Britain. Located in Hereford, NMiTE aims to become the first wholly new UK university in 40 years. Their mobile Ingenuity Studio, Studio 1, is visiting Malvern College for the Festival week and will be open at this event.

STEM Ambassadors use their enthusiasm and commitment to encourage young people to enjoy STEM subjects. They open the doors to a world of opportunities and possibilities which come from pursuing STEM subjects and careers. STEM Ambassadors not only inspire young people, they also support teachers in the classroom by explaining current applications of STEM in industry or research.

UBRacing (TBC) is is the University of Birmingham’s official Formula Student Team. They are an entirely student run project with the aim of designing, funding and building a single-seat racing car from scratch to compete in the Formula Student competition each year. The project is run as an extra-curricular activity and involves over 70 students each year from a range of degree subjects.
