Themed Symposium
Friday 7th October 2016 (all day)
Malvern Theatres, WR14 3HB
Creativity and business acumen don't always go hand-in-hand, but the UK's knowledge-based economy needs brave entrepreneurs to think out-of-the-box and then leap out of their comfort zone. Come to meet others who have done it and organisations that can help you to succeed.
A day devoted to instilling innovation in the heart of your business. Whether you needed to protect intellectual property, secure funding, start a new venture, grow an existing enterprise or expand overseas, this session focused on how to think creatively about your business operations and included case studies and an elevator pitching session.
The symposium was free for all to attend.

Innovation Economies: A UK Perspective We live, work and play in an innovation economy and as a result our future prosperity is now dependent on our ability to innovate, to continuously deliver better outcomes for consumers, businesses and society. Where do the opportunities for innovation come from and how do they differ in their journeys from concept to commercialisation? Why are our innovation economies in a constant state of change and what are the opportunities and challenges, which emerge from a better understanding of how technologies evolve? Innovate UK has a unique perspective of the innovation landscape and this presentation will draw on those insights, to examine the business of innovating. Kevin Baughan, Chief Development Officer at Innovate UK Kevin has a 35-year track record in the telecommunications industry including roles with British Telecom, Nortel Networks and Virgin Media, where most recently he was Director of Technical Strategy and Wireless. He played a leadership role in the technical evolution of Virgin Media and its predecessor companies, championing innovations spanning high-speed broadband, TV, Wi-Fi, cellular infrastructure and services driven by “big data”. Previously Kevin co-founded a pioneering start-up which focused on novel network technologies and worked with the US Airforce research labs. From 1995 to 2008 Kevin was an honorary professor at the University of Birmingham. @KevinBaughan, @innovateuk |
